Preserving Progress: R.E.D. Leads Demolition at Historic Bell Aerospace Office in Niagara Falls

A major chapter in Western New York’s aerospace legacy is making way for future development, and Regional Environmental Demolition Inc. (R.E.D.) is proud to be at the forefront of this important transformation.

Recently, R.E.D. began the partial demolition of the former Bell Aerospace office building in Niagara Falls, NY—once a hub of cutting-edge aviation innovation. Our role in this project reflects both our respect for the site’s historical importance and our commitment to safe, efficient demolition that supports community growth.

A Site of National Significance

Bell Aerospace helped shape America’s aviation and space advancements. From the iconic X-1 aircraft that broke the sound barrier to experimental vertical takeoff prototypes like the X-22, Bell’s innovations played a critical role in military and space exploration history. The facility, located near the Niagara Falls International Airport, once employed thousands and supported the region’s booming aerospace industry during and after World War II.

While Bell’s operations moved to Fort Worth, Texas in the 1950s, its presence is still felt throughout Western New York. Companies like Moog trace their roots back to Bell, and many artifacts from the facility—including flight notes, research archives, and prototype models—are now preserved at the Niagara Aerospace Museum.

Our Role in the Bell Project

As a demolition contractor rooted in Western New York, R.E.D. was honored to be selected for this highly visible and meaningful job. Our team was tasked with demolishing only the front portion of the Bell Aerospace building—an area that had fallen into disrepair and was no longer suitable for redevelopment.

We took extensive care to ensure that all procedures were performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with environmental guidelines. This includes proper removal and disposal of hazardous materials like asbestos, as well as clean site preparation for the next phase of redevelopment.

Looking Toward the Future

This project, coordinated by the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency and supported by Empire State Development, marks a major step toward revitalizing the area surrounding the airport. Redevelopment plans include facade improvements and modern infrastructure updates that will better serve local businesses and the broader community.

R.E.D. is proud to play a part in this forward-looking effort—bringing our demolition expertise to a project that honors the past while clearing the way for what’s next.
